Drywall & Framing

Drywall Calculator

Turn a rectangular room into a practical drywall material list for the walls, with an optional ceiling.

  • Walls + optional ceiling
  • Common sheet sizes
  • Finishing materials

Enter your room and sheet size

Use finished room dimensions. Openings are not deducted because offcuts around doors and windows rarely eliminate the need for full sheets.

Measurement system
ft
Measure the longest inside wall.

Measure perpendicular to the room length.

ft
Measure from finished floor to ceiling.

Adds the room length × width as ceiling area.

How this estimate is calculated

The calculator finds the four-wall area from room perimeter and height, adds the ceiling when selected, applies the waste allowance, and divides by the selected panel area.

Sheets = ((wall perimeter × height) + optional ceiling area) × (1 + waste %) ÷ sheet area

The finishing estimate follows USG guidance scaled by covered area: approximately 100 screws, 30 feet of tape, and 6 kg of joint compound per 100 square feet. Actual framing spacing, fastening schedule, finish level, and installer technique can change quantities.

Drywall Calculator FAQs

Should doors and windows be deducted?

This calculator does not deduct openings. Small openings often consume offcuts and rarely reduce the number of full panels enough to justify a deduction.

How much drywall waste should I allow?

Ten percent is a useful starting point for a simple rectangular room. Unusual angles, many small sections, and first-time installation can require more.

Does the result include a ceiling?

Only when “Yes — walls and ceiling” is selected. Choose walls only if the ceiling is already finished or uses another material.

Are screw and compound quantities exact?

They are planning estimates scaled from published application guidance. Follow the panel system, framing, fire rating, and finish specification for the project.
