How this estimate is calculated
The calculator divides the floor area with waste by the face area of one tile. It rounds that result up to whole tiles, then divides by the carton piece count and rounds up again to whole boxes.
Tiles = (floor area × (1 + waste %)) ÷ one-tile area; boxes = tiles ÷ pieces per box
A complex pattern, diagonal layout, many corners, or fragile tile can require more than 10% waste. Keep spare matching tiles for future repairs because dye lots can change.

How much tile waste should I add?
Ten percent is a common planning allowance for a straightforward layout. Complex patterns, diagonal cuts, and small spaces with many obstacles can need more.
Why are boxes rounded up?
Tile is sold by whole carton. The calculator first rounds to whole tiles and then rounds the carton quantity up so the order cannot come up short.
Should I use nominal or actual tile size?
Use the size or coverage information provided by the manufacturer. Grout joint width and exact manufactured dimensions can affect layout even when the purchase estimate is similar.
Does the estimate include wall tile?
This page calculates one rectangular surface. A wall can be entered the same way, or separate surfaces can be calculated individually and their box totals combined.
